Participating in the Formentera Half Marathon is much more than taking on a sporting challenge. It's also a way to demonstrate respect and commitment to one of the most valuable natural environments in the Mediterranean. Once again, the organizers reaffirm their commitment to sustainability and environmental protection with concrete measures designed to reduce the event's impact.
As has been the case in the last two editions, the start tent at the iconic La Mola Lighthouse will be set up 500 meters before the actual start line. This decision seeks to preserve an Area of Special Natural Interest (ANEI) and minimize the acoustic impact on the habitat of the Balearic shearwater (known locally as the virot), a species endemic to the Balearic Islands and in danger of extinction.
This small gesture is a great example of how sport can coexist in harmony with nature. The organizers would like to thank all the runners, as well as the public, for their understanding and support in helping us preserve this unique environment that makes Formentera such a special place.
Thank you for running with awareness!
