The Organization of the Mitja Marató Illa de Formentera and the 8K Sant Ferran – La Savina wishes to express the following, given the lack of consensus among the various political parties represented on the Formentera Council and the reactions following the announcement of the possible holding of two events in 2026 within the space of one week:

The proposal to organize two editions in 2026 was born with two sole objectives:

-To give more runners the opportunity to enjoy their favorite sport in a unique setting like Formentera. In this year's edition, more than 8,000 athletes have applied to participate, although the maximum number of entries is limited to 3,500

-Provide Formentera with another deseasonalizing event at the beginning of May, which would boost the island's activity before the start of the season and, therefore, increase the economic benefits for the local restaurant and retail sectors. Furthermore, organizing two races in one week would significantly reduce costs by leveraging logistics from one event to the next.

However, the Organization believes that any decision of this magnitude must have the unanimous consensus of all stakeholders involved: political forces, the tourism and business sectors, as well as Formentera society as a whole.

For the past 17 years, we have had the privilege of holding this event thanks to the support, trust, and collaboration of Formentera. Therefore, we would like to sincerely thank the island and its inhabitants for their constant involvement, which has been key to the success of this event.

The Organization will only consider holding two races in 2026 if it has the backing and majority support of Formentera society and its institutional representatives. Our aim has always been and will continue to be to contribute positively to the promotion of sport, sustainable tourism, and coexistence on the island.
