The Madrid athlete Borja Rodríguez (Asociación Atlética de Móstoles) and the Romanian based in Valencia Ionela Clara, whose parents live in Formentera, have claimed victory in the XIII Mitja Marató de Formentera, held under summer heat. The winner has signed an excellent time of 1h10'23”, surpassing Andreu Marimón, who has entered at 36”. The men's podium was completed by Toni Gran, with a time of 1h13'35”. In women, the winner has invested 1h27'56" in covering the 21km route from the Faro de la Mola and the Port de la Savina, where the finish line was located. Isabel Parra was the second classified, with a time of 1h29'35" and third, Elena Sánchez, with a mark of 1h30'10".
The 'Far de la Mola' has been the scene, one more edition, of the start of the test, in which 2,498 participants were registered. At 5:30 p.m., the president of Formentera, Ana Juan, cut the tape and the race started, under demanding conditions for the runners due to intense heat, which has put the participants to the test. A leading group was soon formed, in which Borja Rodríguez was already there, who at km 10 has already passed in first place, demonstrating his ambition. Behind, Andreu Marimón has been making progress and in the last kilometers he has been approaching the head of the race, but he has not been able to overcome Borja Rodríguez, who has managed to manage his advantage to cross the finish line in first place.
In women, the Romanian Ionela Clara has carried out an intelligent race, dosing efforts in the first kilometers, in which the protagonist has been Judit Pujol, first in the 10km passage. But from then on, the winner has accelerated the pace and has been beating rivals until placing herself in first position after km 14. Isabel Parra and Elena Sánchez have disputed the second place in a tight fight, in which she has prevailed the first.
They repeat victory in the 8km
At the same time as the half marathon, the 8km race between Sant Ferran and La Savina also started, with an inscription of 1,225 runners, in which the winners of the 2021 edition, held then in the month of October. Diego Martínez set a time of 28'15" at the finish line, ahead of Toni Ques (28'38") and Llorenç Vidal (28'58"). In the women's category, Roser Mañosa once again demonstrated his superiority over this distance and beat Cristina García (34'26") and Natalia Fernández (35'05") with a time of 33'03”.
The test, which in this edition has recovered its usual date in the month of May, after being held in October 2021 and being suspended in 2020 due to the pandemic, has recovered the pre-pandemic participation figures and has once again become a sports festival and the good atmosphere in Formentera, thanks to the institutional support of the Consell de Formentera, the Agència d'Estratègia Turística de les Illes Balears (AETIB) and numerous sponsors and commercial collaborators such as Oysho, Trasmapi or Caixabank.
